Licensed Stationary Engineer - Maintenance

PRIMARY JOB SUMMARY
Operate, repair and maintain equipment and building systems in accordance with manufacturers specifications, hospital policy and all applicable codes.
PRIMARY JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma, or equivalent, or Trade School required
- Licensed by the City of Chicago as a Stationary Engineer
- Refrigeration Certification Type 1, 2, or Universal to enable employee to work on various A/C Systems helpful but not required
- General knowledge of at least "2" other trades (Pipe fitting, Plumbing, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, etc.)
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics, this requirement will be essential in the installation, operation and repair of various equipment that the Building Engineer will be required to work on
- Familiar with repair, operation, and installation of Pneumatic Systems
Must be in good physical condition as this position requires walking, climbing ladders, and carrying equipment and tools, working in confined spaces, working with chemicals and treatments for Boiler System water
**Reports directly to the Director, Plant Operations & Maintenance or Supervisor, Plant Operations.
**Works with a significant degree of independence.
**Supervisory contact will generally consist of work review, problem review, and priority setting sessions.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
- Demonstrates the WMH Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers.
- Will be required to interact with staff and visitors to determine needs for the services provided.
- Operates, maintains, repairs & installs all equipment as assigned in accordance with guidelines, building codes and departmental policies
- Completes all preventive maintenance assigned within the guidelines of departmental policies.
- Keeps all logs, records and other reports as assigned on the building and up to date data for H.V.A.C. Systems and components of these systems.
- Responds to all calls given in a timely manner by completing the request or communicating with the requestor conditions causing a delay.
- Keeps all assigned areas neat clean and in good repair at all times.
- Be observant and communicate to Department Management any situation that needs attention or could be changed that would improve operation of Building Systems
PRIMARY WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Environment/Hazards: Employee may be required to work any shift of the day or day of the week due to scheduling requirements of the Department. Exposure to chemical hazards may occur.
The employee may be called in for emergency conditions, shift coverage, or repair that is not scheduled as part of the normal routine
Employee may be required to rotate shifts due to workload or scheduling problems.
OSHA Category II: Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.
TB Exposure: There may be an occupational risk for exposure to TB and the incumbent is required to take TB control training, PPD skin tests and/or health screenings.
