Ultrasound Technician - Full Time

PRIMARY JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for performing Ultrasound diagnostic services on a daily basis, according to protocols established by the Manager. Provides technical support to staff and department as needed. Facilitates organizational efficiency of the department’s operations. Obtains studies of highest quality under minimal direction and supervision. Responsible for professional performance and decision making in accordance with the clinical, fiscal and organizational objectives of the department and hospital. Typical duties may include monitoring of daily operations, appointment coordination, verification of patient charges and information processing (RIS), problem solving, and coordination of staff and department resources to accommodate patient demand.
PRIMARY JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of an Allied Health Education and an AMA approved program in Ultrasound.
- Current ARDMS certification
- "2" years Ultrasound experience preferred with knowledge of digital equipment
- Previous leadership role in related field
- CPR certification - REQUIRED
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to handle information in a sensitive and tactful manner
- Proven ability to exercise independent judgment
- The position requires a mature, self-motivated individual who needs little supervision. Excellent time management skills will be used daily to meet critical deadlines. Excellent communication, problem solving, and critical thinking skills are required to enable this incumbent to achieve win-win solutions with all levels of Weiss and physician office personnel.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
1. Demonstrates the WMH Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers. *
2. Functions in the role of a facilitator and clinical resource to staff. Primary resource to technical staff, instructs and guides staff in the skills and requirements needed to perform their day-to-day job function. Supports organizational and departmental philosophies, standards, policies and procedures. *
3. Responsible for daily operation and workflow, interacts and collaborates with physicians. Demonstrates the ability to assess and develop a daily plan that supports department objectives.
4. Responsible working with Medical Director to develop and maintaining Ultrasound scanning and workstation protocols to assure optimal imaging parameters.
5. Ensures department/hospital policies and procedures are adhered to for the safety of employees and patients. Collaborates with supervisor to enforce infection control policies. *
6. Provides input to staff educational needs and follows up to ensure needs are met. Assists in orientation process and aids in education and development of staff. *
7. Fosters an atmosphere that stimulates staff to demonstrate Pride Values and quality service.
8. Positions, immobilizes and performs patient studies according to the established “protocol” set by the Radiologist and as requested by referring physicians. *
9. Formulates appropriate questions for determining history and process for quality outcome. Makes judgments based on data collected. Uses data gained through assessment and collaboration with the health care team to develop a plan of care for each individual patient. Evaluates scan results for consistent technical quality by visually analyzing the digital information.
10. Prepares examination rooms according to department specific guidelines. Ensures adequate supplies and equipment for function of work area. Initiates work and supply orders. *
11. Schedules patients and provides age appropriate explanation of procedures-preparation. Documents data on appropriate forms and enters information into the computer. *
12. Insures the safety of patients, co-workers and property, including the safekeeping and maintenance of confidential information. Participates in related annual reviews. *
13. Demonstrates responsibility for own professional practice and growth by ensuring clinical knowledge base and skills are maintained and enhanced. Supports and maintains current knowledge of organizational and department policies and procedures. Seeks ways to improve performance. *
14. Demonstrates the ability to view, upload and send appropriate images to PACS.
