JOB SUMMARY

Performs clerical duties, medical order transcription and other related supportive tasks on a patient care unit in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One year health care experience preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and transcription
  • Good communication skills
  • Good PC skills for data entry
JOB DUTIES
  • Demonstrates the WMH Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers.
  • Performs clerical duties relating to the admission, transfer and discharge of patients.  Maintains patient charts.
  • Uses age-appropriate information-gathering procedures to obtain pertinent patient information.  Safeguards data and maintains confidentiality.
  • Transcribes physician orders in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Documents selective data on appropriate forms and enters designated information into the computer.  Receives and relays information.
  • Functions as a unit receptionist.  Maintains orderliness of desk area and the efficient workflow of the unit. 
  • Orders and maintains appropriate levels of storeroom supplies per predetermined unit standards. 
  • Maintains unit census.
  • Participates in unit meeting and activities.  Attends educational programs to enhance personal knowledge and skill level.
