Physician Assistant (PA) - Orthopedics Specialty

This position is for a full-time day shift that is 8 hour shifts.
PRIMARY JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Level of knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a Program from an accredited Physician Assistant School.
- Current professional registration in the State of Illinois.
- Current CPR certification.
- Professional competence documented by references based on PA experience, education or both.
- M.S. degree required in related field
PRIMARYJOB DUTIES
- Demonstrates the WMH Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers. *
- Successful in all aspects of providing first assist in the surgical setting.
- Ability to provide quality in-patient care without outside direction.
- Provides diagnostic assessment services, and secures a health history from patient and/or family member. Is able to record said findings, and critically evaluate for use during an in-depth physical examination of the patient. Able to use assessment technique including observation, inspection, auscultation, percussion and palpation as an asset to physician.
- Ability to requisition x-ray’s upon completion of in-depth examination to further aid physician.
- Instructs patients/families and answers questions.
- Arranges consultations and referrals and initiates requests for consultation or referral. Responds to requests from patient, physician, or RN/MA staff. Examines patient and record, and discriminates between normal/abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical problems and determine when to refer patient to a physician for evaluation or directions.
- Triages telephone requests for emergency appointments to control utilization and appropriately schedule patients.
- Complies with established hospital protocol. Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Interprets these to physicians, patients, and public as is appropriate.
- Assists with care and maintenance of unit equipment, supplies and work areas. Requisitions supplies and equipment as needed for patient care. Requests maintenance and repair of malfunctioning equipment. Disposes of defective supplies.
- Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintains good employee relations, interdepartmental relations and public relations. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information, and abides by established communications code.
- Attends required meetings, in-services and educational programs.
- Maintains professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
- Performs other duties as directed/required.
